Golconda Fort: The Fort on the Hill

After the amazing trip to the Chowmahalla Palace of Hyderabad it was time to visit another extraordinary destination of the city known as the Golconda Fort. Golconda Fort was built in the 13th century by the kaktiya kings of the region. The present structure was renovated by later Qutub Shahi Kings into a massive fort. The fort is situated about 11 kilometres from the city of Hyderabad and is one of the most magnificent fort structures in whole of India.

We went to visit the Fort which is located on a hill about 400 metres above the surrounding plain. The outer wall of Golconda fort is quite long stretching 10 kilometres and has structures like 87 semi circular bastions a few of which had cannons.

There are 80 gateways to this massive fort and Royal apartments are inside the Fort. We entered the fort through the Fateh Darwaza or the Gate of Victory. The door of the Golconda Fort is said to be 13 feet wide and 25 feet high and equipped with steel spikes that protected the fort from the Elephant during the wars.

The fort looked amazing and one from those movies made on the life of kings and ancient wars. We had a great photography session in the complex of the fort and some of the pictures captured by us of the Fort complex and its features were simply amazing inspiring. The gateway that impressed us all was the Balahisar gateway.
