Ravindra Bharathi Auditorium – A Centre for City’s Cultural Needs
On the next day after visiting the Film City, we all were extremely tired. We were so exhausted that we couldn’t think of enjoying any place that day. So we decided to rest till lunch, and then move to the city’s next attraction. So, we lazily spent the next half day by relaxing, chatting and viewing our photographs of the trip so far.
Post lunch, we regained enough energy to go for the city tour. Though, avoiding any further physical exertion for the day, we decided to visit the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium of Hyderabad.
Ravindra Bharathi is a celebrated National theatre, which was built to fulfill the cultural needs of the state by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and was devoted to the name of the great poet Sri. Rabindranath Tagore – the first ever Nobel laureate from Asia (in 1913).
We were soon in the premises of the most admired cultural center of Hyderabad – the Ravindra Bharathi. We came across an auditorium and a theatre that was a witness to many popular cultural performances. There was also a gallery, and a huge conference hall. The Ravindra Bharati has been a venue to many historical, cultural and pop events since its construction in 1964.
This place is always occupied by one or the other events, and when we reached there, a recital was being performed by a music group from a local school of the region. Next day was scheduled for a performance by a famous band.
On reaching the centre, we were pleased to know that a ballet performance was about to start, as me and my wife are great admirers of classical entertainment. An immensely popular music festival – Kishireda , is also executed at this place, and if the tourists are lucky enough, they get a chance to witness that.
Ravindra Bharathi is always filled with Telugu of Hindi plays as the place is greatly admired by many theatre groups. The performance we watched was great, though the seating arrangements were not comfortable and needed improvisation. Dances, songs, plays, performances, stories — be it anything, as long as interested watchers congregate, it cultivates a memory that is cherished by everyone.
