Agnigarh, Tezpur, Assam – A Popular Sightseeing Destination of Assam
The days of my stay in Assam had been splendid. I and my family had enjoyed thoroughly, the serenity, the food, places, culture, practices, hills and temples of the state to the core of heart. I was truly getting a nostalgia with Assam as the natural beauty is least observed in the crowds and busyness of metropolitan Kolkata. But as they say, everything beautiful thing comes to an end to give rise to prettier things in life. Our seven days vacation in Assam had come to an end. In the last day, I decided to make a visit to Agnigarh in Tezpur, Assam.
Agnigarh is one of the famous sightseeing places of the state and one of the most crowded picnic spots. Previously, it was known to be the abode for the romance of Prince Aniruddha, son of Lord Krishna and Princes Usha, and the fort was always surrounded with fire so that no one else could enter it without their permission. Agnigarh is now a river facing fort which provides the view of the entire city. There are clean green plants and shrubs all around the park with water fall and display of giant artificial mushrooms.
The mythological values of the fort hold its significance of a temple. However the place is more enjoyed as a picnic spot. There is also a different story associated with the existence of the fort here. They say that there was a friend of Princess Usha named Chitralekha w ho was a talented painter. One day when she went to the jungle to paint, she unknowingly drew the portrait of Prince Aniruddha, after which she discovered it to Princess Usha. Slowly Princess Ushan and Prince Aniruddha fell in love with each other and their friend Chitralekha helped them to marry each other secretly.
The Hindu mythology is vast and several stories and beliefs make them even more popular. One doesn’t exactly know which story holds true. But still the place is ventured by lots of people for a beautiful time with friends and loved ones. After having a pleasing day in Agnigarh, Tezpur we returned back to our hotels as we had the flight back to Kolkata in the night.
