State Museum Bhubaneswar Teaches You a Lot about the Past

This time it was museum in Bhubaneswar that we went. We enjoyed the elegancy and ambience of the State Museum in Bhubaneswar. It was a massive structure located in BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar and is only 2 km from the Bhubaneswar railway station.

The visiting time is from 10 am to 5 pm and we reached the museum at 11 am. It is open on all days except Mondays and public holidays. We had to take tickets for entering the museum and it was Rs.5 per visitor. Inside the museum, I saw many galleries like the Archaeology gallery, Numismatics, Contemporary, Epigraphy, Mining and Geology, Patta painting, etc. First of all we went to the archaeology gallery. The archaeology gallery had rare collections of Buddhist, Jain, Vaishnava and Shaiva sculptures. There were sculptures of Buddha, Tirthankaras, Ganesha, Karthikeya and also Gods of nature like Surya, the Sun God, Agni, the Fire God, Varun, the God of water, etc. They were very old, some as old as 3000 years.

Another gallery that interested us was the Numismatics Gallery, which had a collection of stone inscriptions, copper plates, coins belonging to the Mauryan and Kusana era, gold coins belonging to the Gupta period, silver coins, etc. We were amazed on seeing such rare collections. The Mining and Geology gallery contained semi precious stones, the sand stones used in making sculptures and temples and many minerals. The palm leaf gallery interested me a lot. Here I saw inscriptions on palm leaf and bamboo leaf, handmade paper, old paper, etc. The other galleries were also as interesting. It took us more than 2 hours to visit all the galleries. We were quite tired and looked for some refreshment at a food joint near the museum. Visiting State Museum Bhubaneswar was really educative for all of us.

Though every year I go out with my family on vacation to different places in India, I love this trip the most as I loved this luxurious travel and the pleasant experiences both in traveling and staying. It also saved me a lot of time and I really relaxed and enjoyed the trip. .
